UTS Mobile Ticketing App For Mumbai and Chennai Suburban Section

Book Unreserved Ticket For Mumbai and Chennai Suburban Section Using UTS Mobile App


Indian Railways has introduced the facility of booking train ticket in unreserved category for Mumbai and Chennai suburban area through GPS enabled smart phones using UTS mobile app. The application is available for Android and Windows platforms as of now. For Android phones, the app can be downloaded from Google Play Store and for Windows phones, the app can downloaded from Window app store. The application has been developed by Centre For Railway Information Systems (CRIS).

To use the app, passenger has to register through mobile app or by visiting the UTS website www.utsmobile.indianrail.gov.in. During registration, passenger has to enter his / her name, mobile number, city and ID card number. After registration, passenger will receive a four digit MPIN number which can be used as password for the mobile application as well as for logging to UTS website.

To make payment, a wallet with zero balance is created during registration. This wallet is known as Railway-wallet (R-wallet). You can recharge this wallet from UTS website. For this, login to the website using mobile number as login ID and MPIN as password and recharge the R-wallet using Top-up R-Wallet option. You can make payment through Internet Banking and Debit Card during recharge.

The following services are available to a registered user through UTS mobile app.

1. User can book suburban tickets for Mumbai and Chennai.
2. User can cancel booked suburban tickets.
3. User can check R-Wallet current balance.
4. User can surrender R-Wallet.
5. User can modify his / her profile such as change journey route, delete and modify routes and create new routes.
6. User can check booking history.
7. User can change password.

A passenger can book railway ticket in the following two ways.

1. Paper Ticket: 


In this mode of  booking, a print out of the ticket is must, otherwise the passenger will be treated as travelling without ticket. Paper ticket booking feature is available for whole Mumbai Suburban area except Churchgate to Dahanu Road section of Western Railway

On completion of booking process, the passenger will get booking ID along with other details. Using this booking ID, a print out of the ticket should be taken at Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) available at the source station. Journey is permitted only with printed ticket.

2. Paperless Ticket: 

In this mode of  booking, ticket will be electronically available in the mobile itself. There is no need to take the print out of this ticket. This mode of booking is available in Chennai suburban area and Churchgate to Dahanu Road section of Mumbai suburban of Western Railway. To book paperless ticket, the smartphone should be GPS enabled.

For Chennai suburban, no ticket booking will be allowed within the GPS co-ordinates of suburban Railway plus 15 meters on either side of the railway tracks, earmarked as Geo-Fencing area.

For Mumbai suburban of Western Railway over Churchgate to Dahanu Road section, no ticket booking will be allowed within the GPS co-ordinates of suburban Railway plus 30 meters on either side of the railway tracks, earmarked as Geo-Fencing area.

Please note that paperless ticket cannot be cancelled after booking. Passenger has to show the ticket through the phone during journey. Passenger has to commence the journey within one hour after booking the paperless ticket.

Booking a Ticket

To book a ticket, login to the UTS mobile application by entering mobile number as login ID and MPIN as password. Passengers are allowed to book tickets only for current date and no advance booking will be allowed. There are two options to book a ticket, Normal Booking and Quick Booking.

Normal Booking: Enter source and destinations, number of passengers and class of travel (4 passengers for Second Class and one passenger for First Class are allowed per ticket), journey type (single / return). Once all the details have been entered, the system will show the fare for ticket and R-Wallet balance. If there are sufficient balance, press "Book Ticket" button to book the ticket. Ticket will be booked and confirmation message with unique booking ID will be received by the passenger.

The paperless ticket will be shown with caption M-TICKET and paper ticket will have caption "Paper Ticket" with ATVM print option. Take print out of paper ticket through ATVM kiosk.

Quick Booking: In this option, frequent travel route will be shown along with default class, ticket type, train type, number of passengers. After selecting route, fare will be shown. if there is sufficient balance in R-Wallet, ticket will be booked and amount will be deducted and confirmation message with unique booking ID will be received by the passenger.
