Online Payment Options For Railway Reservation Through IRCTC

Net Banking, Payment Gateway | Credit Card, Debit Card, Cash Card / Wallet, IRCTC Prepaid and EMI Payment Options For Train Reservation


As per IRCTC news, more than 50% of railway ticket booking is being done online. During online ticket booking, online payment of fare can be made through various methods. A proper knowledge of these options is essential for successful booking of train ticket. These options will be discussed one by one.

Net Banking

Net Banking is one of the most popular method used for making online payment. Prerequisite for net banking is that one should have online banking facility activated for his account. This can be done by visiting the concerned bank branch and making a written request or filling a form for this.
Currently, IRCTC provides online payment through Net Banking for the following banks only.

State Bank of India
State Bank of India and Associates
Federal Bank
Indian Bank
Union Bank of India
Andhra Bank
Punjab National Bank
Allahabad Bank
Vijaya Bank
AXIS Bank
HDFC Bank
Bank of Baroda
Karnataka Bank

If you don't have net banking facility in any of the above listed banks then you will not be able to make online payment of train ticket through net banking. You have to use some other method of payment such as Payment Gateway / Credit Card / Debit Card.

Payment Gateway | Credit Card

Online payment can be made through various Visa / Master / RuPay cards, powered by various banks. The list is as follows.

Visa / Master Card (Powered By HDFC BANK)
American Express
Visa / Master Card (Powered By AXIS BANK)
RuPay Card (Powered by Kotak Bank)

For making online payment, you have to enter Card Type, Card Number, Card Expiry Date, CVV Number, Name of the card holder and finally captcha and then click "Make Payment".

Debit Card

Online payment can be made through various debit cards. Debit cards of the following banks can be used.

State Bank of India
Punjab National Bank
Indian Bank
Union Bank of India
Bank of India
Andhra Ban
Canara Bank
CITI Bank
ICICI Bank
HDFC Bank
AXIS Bank

If you don't have Debit Card any of the above listed banks then you will not be able to make online payment of train ticket through Debit Card. You have to use some other method of payment such as Payment Gateway / Credit Card. Through Payment Gateway, you can use the Debit Cards of other banks for making online payment.

Payment through Direct Debit facility of Internet Banking option:

ICICI Bank - Transaction charges of Rs. 5/-+service tax applicable on per transaction.
HDFC Bank - Transaction charges of Rs. 11.03/- per transaction.
IDBI Bank - Transaction charges of Rs. 10/- per transaction.
Citibank Debit - Transaction charges of Rs. 10/- per transaction.
ITZ Cash Direct Debit - Transaction charges of 1.8%.
Union Bank of India - Transaction charge Nill.
Federal Bank - Transaction charge Nill.
Punjab National Bank - Transaction charge Nill.
IndusInd Bank - Transaction charge Nill.
Done Card - Transaction Charge 1.8%.

Cash Card / Wallets

Online payment can be made through various Cash Card / Wallets available in the market. The List of such Cash Card / Wallets is given below.

ITZ Cash Card
I Cash Card
OXI Cash Card
Paytm Wallet

ITZ Cash Cards can be used wherever the designated payment brand (Visa and MasterCard) is accepted and also for specific purposes like paying utility bills online, shopping, booking railway tickets, etc. These cards can be obtained through ItzCash World Outlets. For this, you may visit their website itzcash.com or call at 02261125757.

To get iCashCard, you can visit their website icashcard.in and register for iCashCard wallet by clicking on "Register Today" button in the home page. iCashCard is also available at all authorized outlets and authorized dealers across India.

The Oxi Cash Wallet is a virtual wallet that can be obtained by getting yourself registered on the website oxicash.in and creating a wallet. This can be done either by sending an SMS or by simply filling up online form.

For getting Paytm Wallet, you have to visit their website paytm.com and sign up for paytm wallet by filling online form.

Please note that Cash Cards / Wallets are not available between 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for making online payment to IRCTC for booking train tickets.

IRCTC Prepaid

Online payment can be made through IRCTC - UBI Prepaid card which is launched by Union Bank of India in collaboration of IRCTC. This Card is powered by RuPay.

You can get physical / virtual IRCTC - UBI Prepaid card by visiting IRCTC / Union Bank website or Union Bank branches. To purchase this card, one should have a valid PAN Card, Mobile number and Email account. Bank account in not necessary for purchasing this card.

For making online payment, you have to enter Card Number, Card Expiry Date, CVV Number, Name of the card holder and finally captcha and then click "Make Payment".

Please note that IRCTC Prepaid cards are not available between 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for making online payment to IRCTC for booking train tickets.

EMI

Online payment for train ticket booking can be made through EMI (Equal Monthly Installment). Payment has to be done in 3 EMIs. EMI payment can be done through CITI Bank Visa / Master Credit cards. You cannot use Debit cards for EMI payment.

    The main issue seem that on payment the portal is asking complete BANK card details. Though encrypted, but not feel safe. OTP generation is must be available
