IRCTC Launches Cash on Delivery (CoD) For Train Booking

Railway Reservation Through Cash on Delivery


IRCTC has recently launched an ambitious plan of rail ticketing, known as Cash on Delivery (CoD). Under this system, customers will make payment for the booked train tickets at the time of delivery of ticket through courier, making the payment more convenient. Through this innovative method, IRCTC plans to serve those customers who are not willing to use their credit / debit cards for making online payments or those who don't have net banking facility. This will certainly encourage the general masses to make online railway ticket booking. This in turn will reduce burden on reservation counters of Indian Railways and may solve the problem of long queues.

IRCTC has authorised Anduril Technologies to provide CoD services through their website BookMyTrain.com and the related mobile app which is available for Android, iOS, Windows and Black Berry mobiles.

This scheme has initially been launched on pilot basis in about 200 cities, to be extended gradually. Tickets can be booked at least 5 days before the commencement of journey. Customers will be required to pay Rs. 40 for the delivery of Sleeper Class ticket and Rs. 60 for an AC class ticket.

To book a ticket, please follow the steps explained below.

1. Visit the bookmytrain.com website and login to the website if you already have IRCTC login ID and password. If you don't have login ID and password then you must register first and create you login ID and password. Alternately, you can download the app from respective play stores.

2. Click on "Buy a Ticket" tab and enter journey details such as starting station, destination station, type of quota and journey date.

3. Select the desired train and class of travel to get availability of seat / berth.

4. Fill the passenger details and reservation preference.

5. Select payment option and review the booking details.

6. Accept the terms and condition of booking and enter your delivery address.

7. Confirm your booking by entering your registered email ID.

General booking rules of IRCTC are applicable for CoD booking also. Both normal and Tatkal CoD tickets can be  booked. Passengers should travel with proper photo identity proof as required by IRCTC. Booked tickets can also be cancelled by visiting the bookmytrain.com or through mobile app.
